Business Income Manual updated

Posted by: , Posted on: - Categories: News and Updates

Did you know that a major update to the Business Income Manual (BIM) was published on 10 December 2013.

Over 2000 pages of guidance have been updated to reflect legislative changes, including Tax Law Rewrite, Simpler Income Tax rules and accountancy changes. We believe the guidance is now much easier to use - could you let us know if you agree by leaving a comment on this blog?

We know from our recent survey that many of you also use HMRC Agent Toolkits, most of which contain hyperlinks to the BIM.  We have updated those too, to make sure they all link to the latest material.

The BIM hyperlinks in the agents’ toolkits give you access to more detailed background - and explain the risks, which are also dealt with within the toolkits themselves. You can find the latest versions at: www.hmrc.gov.uk/toolkits

It's good to note that 'BIM70005 - Cash basis: overview' now includes clarification on the timing for recognition of receipts and expenses under the cash basis. Consistency of treatment is the key.

The HMRC manuals are really useful, but it would be helpful to be able to download the whole manual instead of having to navigate pages on the web.
